Shanghai SIPG made it five wins in five games in round five of the CSL 2018 season. A 2-1 away at Henan Jianye cemented last season’s runners-up at the top of the Chinese Super League.
Elsewhere, Guangzhou R&F suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat to Jiangsu Suning. It was the visitor’s second consecutive win under coach Cosmin Olaroiu who replaced Fabio Capello.
R&F’s neighbours and reigning CSL champions, Guangzhou Evergrande, battled to a slender win over Shandong Luneng to make it four wins in a row. Gao Lin’s fourth minute flying header was enough to secure all three points.
Goal of the weekend came from Changchun Yatai’s Zheyu Du stunning free-kick. Unfortunately it proved nothing more than a consolation in a 2-1 defeat to Hebei CFFC.
