Rangers star Connor Goldson has urged his team-mates to go and dominate Scottish football and not just be known as the team that won 55.
The Ibrox vice-captain admits he’ll look back on the season and realise how big it was when he retires but doesn’t want that to be the defining moment of his career.
The big defender is out-of-contract next summer but dropped a massive hint that he could be about to extend his stay after demanding his side go on and win titles 56, 57 and 58.
Steven Gerrard admitted he was confident a deal would be done earlier this week but was comfortable in leaving Goldson time to make the decision ahead of the new season.
And now the former Brighton star reckons Rangers players need to be focused on ‘dominating Scotland’ instead of looking back at the success of last season, and insists there’s no reason why they can’t do it.
He played every minute of the 2020/21 season and will be a key player for Gerrard again but he admits he hasn’t put too much thought into what happened just yet.
He told RangersTV: “I sat down on holiday and thought about it and it sunk in a little bit what we done but I don’t think it’ll be until the end of my career when you really look back on last season and see how special it was.
“As soon as you start back running on pre-season your only focus is on the future and the present so I don’t really want to look back too much.
“We know we made history and we’ll go down but now it’s time to decide what we want to do. Do we want to go and dominate or do we want to be known as the team that won 55?
“Do we want to go on now and win 56, 57, 58 or do we just want to be known as the team that won 55.
“Personally, that’s where my head is at and I think the gaffer will be drilling that home every day to make us try and go on and hopefully dominate.”
Rangers have Champions League action to come as well as their title defence and Goldson admits he can’t wait to experience being successful inside a full Ibrox.

He and his team-mates got a taste of what it would be like with the crowds who gathered outside the stadium on the day they won the league and on trophy day.
And now he’s demanded his team-mates keep levels high to go on and be a real force in Scottish football again.
He added: “You’ve got the taste success and you see what this football club is about when it’s successful last season, you can only imagine what it will be like winning things in front of a full house at Ibrox.
“Winning trophies and playing in the Champion League and that’s where my head is at. I’m desperate to get the season started and we’re working hard every day and it’s been tough so far.
“But we want to go on now and try and dominate Scotland. There’s no reason why we can’t, it’s going to be tough, we’re going to have to be 100 per cent every game but if we get to the levels we had last season when we were as hungry as we’ve ever been then we’ve got a great chance.”
