Colony’s AJ Jones commits to UCLA football – Whittier Daily News

Colony High (Ontario) wide receiver AJ Jones announced his verbal commitment to the UCLA football program on Sunday.

Jones, rated as a 3-star prospect by Rivals, became the third offensive player to commit to the 2022 class, joining four-star tight ends Jack Pedersen and Carsen Ryan.

The 6-foot-4, 195 pound junior had offers from programs such as Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State.

Jones is the first commit attributed to Bruins receivers coach Jerry Neuheisel.

Neuheisel was promoted to wide receivers coach in January after spending seven of the past nine seasons with the program as a back-up quarterback and most recently a graduate assistant coach working with receivers.

Signed and ready

Former Alabama linebacker Brandon ‘Ale’ Kaho and former Michigan running back Zach Charbonnet officially signed with the Bruins on March 31.

Kaho was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and spent the last three seasons with Coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

Kaho decided to transfer to Pac-12 South rival Utah in late February but changed course and landed at UCLA, becoming the seventh incoming transfer for the 2021 recruiting class.

Kaho contributed on special teams and rotated in at linebacker, playing in at least 12 games in each of his first three college seasons. He joins the Bruins’ roster as a junior with two years of eligibility after the NCAA granted players an extra year because of the pandemic.

He adds depth to a group of UCLA linebackers that saw just one departure this offseason when Leni Toailoa entered the transfer portal.

Charbonnet, a former Oaks Christian High running back, spent two seasons at Michigan before entering the portal.

The former four-star prospect rushed for 726 yards and 11 touchdowns at Michigan in 2019 but saw a decrease in production in 2020 with 124 yards and 19 carries in five games. His 11 touchdowns in 2019 set the Wolverines’ single-season freshman rushing touchdown record. He was also named All-Big Ten honorable mention.
