Chelsea chase Saul

Chelsea remain on the hunt for a fourth midfielder to complement their central core before the transfer window slams shut, and the Blues look set to push for Atlético Madrid’s Saúl Ñíguez.

At current, Thomas Tuchel can only rely on a triumvirate of midfielders comprised of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovačić. As reported by Goal’s
Nizaar Kinsella, a deal for Ñíguez would be a loan move that would include an option to buy, thought to be in the region of £34-£40million.

Despite the key midfield pair of Kanté and Jorginho remaining everpresent for Tuchel, added depth in quality in the center of the park would be another feather the Chelsea cap in a summer where the remit is clear; to win the Premier League.

Outgoings key to strike a deal; Roma interest in Ruben Loftus-Cheek offers a timely boost

But despite Chelsea looking to assemble a first-team squad under Tuchel that can pry the Premier League away from the clutches of Manchester City, there was only so much movement the Blues can perpetrate before their bloated squad became an issue.

As of now, Chelsea has sent six players out on loan, allowing three players to move on after their contracts expired, all while selling Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Davide Zappacosta, Victor Moses, and Olivier Giroud. It has been a clear-out of epic proportions, and still more names will hopefully move on this summer to allow the Blues a chance to strike late deals for both Ñíguez, as well as Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde.

Former boss José Mourinho may hold the key to open the door for Ñíguez, with the AS Roma boss sounding out a potential move for England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Loftus-Cheek, who had two separate loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham, is viewed as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and, with Roma already bringing in Tammy Abraham this summer, could find value in the market for a versatile midfielder which could play a bigger role at the Stadio Olimpico.

Should a deal be agreed on, Chelsea would net a pure £16million profit from the sale of the academy graduate.
