Chelsea and Spurs to battle it out for Serie A defender

London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the signing of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports.

As per The Daily Mail, the two Premier League clubs are both interested in signing the Slovakian defender this summer.

Both clubs will have money to spend during the upcoming window, and both the Blues and the Lilywhites are also set to be in the market for central defenders.

Chelsea lost both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of the season, and manager Thomas Tuchel will be looking to land at least two centre backs in the coming weeks.

Skriniar has been a regular for Inter since joining the Serie A side in 2017, making 215 appearances for the club across five seasons.

Skriniar could be on his way to London

The Blues are reportedly in talks with the Italian side over a move, although the two clubs’ valuations of the 27-year-old are some way apart at present.

Spurs, meanwhile, may fancy their chances of signing the player due to Antonio Conte’s links to the Slovakian.

The pair worked together at Inter and won the Serie A title during the 2020/21 campaign, and Skriniar is a player that Conte trusts and admires.

Skriniar, who has represented his country 48 times, is set to be out of contract next summer and Inter may therefore choose to cash in on the player now, as opposed to losing him for free in 12 months.
