Changchun Yatai continued to build ahead of the 2021 Chinese Super League season and are reportedly close to securing a new defender.

According to reports out of Denmark, 28-year-old centre back Jores Okore is in Shanghai to complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine ahead of completing a deal to join the 2020 China League One champions.

According to weekly football magazine Tipsbladet, the former Danish international will be able to leave quarantine on February 24th – allowing him just two days to complete his deal with the Northeastern club before the current Chinese transfer window is set to close.

The 6-foot defender has spent the past few years playing for AaB (also known as Aalborg BK), where he has featured in 116 total matches – scoring five goals.

Prior to his spell with Aalborg, Okore had a brief tenure with English Premier League Club Aston Villa sandwiched between spells with FC Copenhagen, whom he won the Danish League and Danish Cup with in the 2016/17 season as well as FC Nordsjaelland, whom he also won the league (11/12) and cup (09/10 & 10/11) in a fruitful start to his career.

For Changchun Yatai, Okore would provide the club with a solid experienced player that can partner alongside captain Sun Jie in Chen Yang’s back four.

Signing announcements have been fairly quiet for the club so far this offseason, with Erik Lima the only officially signed player, and a number of others, both Chinese and foreign, still rumoured to be joining.

If Okore and the club can push through his transfer before the end of the window, it would be a huge boost for Changchun Yatai and give the team a number of solid import players to choose from when the new top tier season finally gets underway.
