Changchun Yatai have made their first signing of the winter transfer window, confirming that Brazilian Serginho has arrived at the club.
Samvel Babayan’s side had been linked with a move for the attacking midfielder two weeks ago, with his contract set to officially expire at the end of the month.
Now, the 24-year-old has been officially unveiled on the club’s Weibo account, just days after a photo of him donning a Changchun Yatai training jacket emerged on social media.
Serginho has had a successful spell playing for Kashima Antlers in the J-League, scoring 31 goals and assisting on a further ten in 76 total appearances for the club.
His efforts saw him win the 2018 AFC Champions League, the first in the club’s history, while also finishing as a runner-up in this past season’s Emperor’s Cup.
His ability to sit behind the main striker, providing goals of his own along with key passes and assists, will be a valuable piece to the puzzle for Changchun Yatai.
Having Serginho sit behind Richairo Zivkovic, with Tan Long and either Yang Chaosheng or Zhou Dadi out wide will give the northeastern club a truly threatening attacking corps ahead of another push for promotion.
The link between midfield and upfront was lacking at times during the 2019 campaign, so adding in Serginho to the mix could arguably be the best signing Babayan can make this window.
