Celtic’s ‘Ange-ball’ stats laid bare as Hoops dominate Europa League lists at BOTH ends

ANGE POSTECOGLOU promised Celtic fans an exciting, attacking brand of football when he was unveiled as Hoops boss during the summer.

And his boasts about what Hoops fans know as ‘Ange-ball’ are well and truly borne out by the latest stats for the Uefa Europa League.

Jota has the second most attempts in the Europa League so far – but has yet to score

In an admittedly tough section, they show that after three rounds of matches, Celtic have the SECOND most amount of shots on target of all 32 teams in the competition – behind just group rivals Baker Leverkusen.

The Hoops have the third most attempts in all (51) with their 21 on target behind only Leverkusen’s 26.

And that’s SEVEN more shots on target than Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have managed in tenth spot.

The Gers have hit the target 14 times from a total of just 36 attempts.

But it was the Ibrox men who came out on top in the only Old Firm match so far this season and where the statistics favour Rangers more is in the defensive side of the game.

That is because the Hoops conceded the MOST goals of any team in the Europa League, shipping EIGHT goals from their 3 matches to date.

And only two teams – Brondby and Ferencvaros – have also required more saves than Hoops keeper Joe Hart has been called upon to produce.

Hart has been called into action no fewer than 15 times already during this campaign.

By contrast, Rangers sit middle of the pack – having conceded just three times, with Allan McGregor called into action only FIVE times.

As for individual stats, only two men, Leicester City’s Patson Daka and Cengiz Under of Marseille have had more attempts than Celtic star Jota.

But the Portuguese winger has yet to break his duck in this competition, with six of his shots on target, three wide of the mark and another three blocked.

He has weighed in with a couple of assists, however, not least of them being the sublime 50 yard ball he supplied for Kyogo Furuhashi’s opener against Ferencvaros.

Hart’s 15 saves put him behind only Ferencvaros keeper Denes Dibusz in the list.
