Celtic have been handed a potentially significant selection setback ahead of their Premiership clash with Aberdeen at Parkhead on Sunday.
What’s the word?
According to journalist Jo Hendry, the Hoops are set to be without Carl Starfelt once again for the visit of the Dons, while fellow summer signing Giorgos Giakoumakis is also expected to be sidelined.
Following a press conference on Wednesday, she tweeted: “Ange Postecoglou confirms no fresh injuries. Rogic close but will probably leave until weekend. Starfelt a few days behind that. Giakoumakis to have further investigation on a knee issue.”
With holding midfielder Nir Bitton forced off the field of play with a knock on Thursday, Celtic could be without several key players for their crucial clash against Aberdeen.
Are you confident of a Celtic victory?
Yes, definitely!
No way!
Ange Postecoglou will be gutted
News that Starfelt is not expected to play any part for Celtic over the weekend will surely leave Postecoglou feeling gutted.
The 26-year-old centre-back arrived from Russian outfit Rubin Kazan for a reported £4m fee over the summer and has already started 20 games in all competitions for his new club in the opening weeks of the current campaign.
His underlying numbers highlight the impressive impact he was having for Postecoglou’s ever-improving Celtic. As per WhoScored, Starfelt has averaged 0.3 blocks, 1.5 interceptions and a whopping 3.7 clearances per league game this term, placing him in the top four for each metric when compared to his teammates.
With the Glasgow giants conceding seven goals in the four games that the Sweden international has missed in recent weeks, Postecoglou will be desperate to get the 6 foot 1 beast back in action as soon as possible.
