Celtic are considering making a bid to bring Manchester City defender Ko Itakura on loan, according to a report.

The centre back had a successful time in the Eredivisie with Groningen but is unlikely to break into Pep Guardiola’s squad next season.

And now Celtic could make a move for him with Ange Postecoglou keen to strengthen his backline.

The Daily Record report that Postecoglou likes Itakura from his time in Japan with Yokohama F Marinos and would like to add him to his squad.

The centre back can also play in midfield and joined City from Kawasaki Frontale.

The Hoops are also closing in on the signing of Mario Vuskovic from Hadjuk Split as Postecoglou gets to grips with his squad.

He hopes to have new signings in the door before they head to Wales for their pre-season training camp.

It’s less than a month until Celtic begin their Champions League campaign against FC Midtjylland.

They then face Hearts in their first Premiership game of the season on July 31.
