Brazil will go head-to-head on Thursday against Peru in their World Cup qualifying fixture after the suspension of Sunday’s clash with Argentina.
Both sides recently met in the Copa America semi-final. ‘La Canarinha’ emerged victorious and will try to add another victory to their record after beating Chile in their last game.
Brazil, who will try to keep their perfect record with eight wins in eight games, started the qualifying tournament in an impressive way: a 5-0 thrashing of Bolivia and a 4-2 win over Peru. They also beat Venezuela, Uruguay, Ecuador, Paraguay and Chile
The ‘Seleçao’, who lost to Argentina in the Copa America final, met La Albiceleste again on Sunday, but the game was brought to an abrupt end inside the first 10 minutes as Brazilian health officials stormed the pitch. They claimed that three Argentinian players didn’t declare that they had arrived from England, a nation on Brazil’s covid-19 red list.
Peru need the points, Brazil want their eight win
As for Peru, in seventh position with eight points, they go into the match after a couple of good results: a 1-1 draw against Uruguay and a 1-0 win over Venezuela in their last game.
After a 4-0 thrashing to Brazil in the opening game of the Copa America, Peru managed to bounce back with wins over Colombia and Venezuela to progress to the final eight, and they went a stage further by prevailing in a penalty shootout against Paraguay after a dramatic 3-3 draw in their quarter-final.
Their presence in the competition came to an end against the favorites Brazil but their performance was far better than in their previous encounter and now ‘Los Incas’ will try to maintain their improvement when both sides meet again on Thursday.
