BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) — A first-half strike from Giuliano Galoppo gave Banfield a 1-0 victory at Platense on Friday as the Buenos Aires club moved to the top of Argentina’s Primera Division Group A standings.
Galoppo put the visitors ahead just before halftime with a low free-kick that went under the Platense defensive wall and beat goalkeeper Jorge de Olivera at his near post.
Banfield controlled the match thereafter to secure the win and overtake their rivals at the top of the Group A standings with eight points from four outings. Platense, Union and Defensa have seven points each.
In Friday’s only other Primera Division fixture, Defensa clinched a 3-2 home win over Gimnasia.
Miguel Merentiel, Carlos Rotondi and Nicolas Tripichio were on target for the hosts while Cristian Tarragona and Adonis Frias struck for the visitors.
