Atlanta United 2 Wins 5-0 vs. FC Tulsa

May 19, 2021 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Atlanta United 2 News Release

KENNESAW, Ga. – Atlanta United 2 handed FC Tulsa its first loss of the season with a 5-0 win in its home opener Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Aiden McFadden netted two goals and recorded an assist en route to the big win over the first-place team in the Central Division. Chris Allan, Tyler Wolff and Coleman Gannon each registered a goal as well. It was the fourth time in ATL UTD 2 history that the club scored five goals in a match, and it was the club’s largest margin of victory.

ATL UTD 2 controlled the tempo and possession from the first whistle. Atlanta recorded the first goal of the match in the 34th minute. McFadden drew a foul outside of the 18-yard box, and Tulsa’s Jorge Luis Corrales received a yellow card for the foul. Mikey Ambrose whipped in the free kick off the crossbar, but Allan was there to head in the goal.

In the 36th minute, goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard drove a pass from his own box to McFadden at the halfway line, who headed it on to Stanley. The 19-year-old forward drove to the end line and crossed to a crashing McFadden for the one-time finish. Then three minutes later, the right back struck again off of a cross from Ambrose.

Tyler Wolff joined in on the first half scoring spree with a goal of his own in the second minute of stoppage time. McFadden quickly threw in the ball to Darwin Matheus in the final third, where he flicked the ball over his shoulder to Wolff, who buried it home with a left-footed strike near the top of the box.

Lundgaard was tested early in the second half in the 47th minute as Marlon Santos headed the ball to the bottom left corner, but the 6-foot-5 goalkeeper was there to make the save on what was Tulsa’s only shot on target of the night. Atlanta extended their lead to 5-0 in the 80th minute, when Coleman Gannon and Will Reilly partnered up for a give-and-go that finished with Gannon slipping the ball past a diving Sean Lewis.

ATL UTD 2 (2-1-1, 7 points) will return to action against Memphis 901 FC Sunday, May 23 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium (ESPN+, 3:30 p.m. ET).
