Assessing Frank Lampard’s potential move to become Norwich boss – Talk Chelsea

The managerial merry-go-round continues out there right now as Aston Villa boss Dean Smith became the latest Premier League manager to get the chop.

He joins Daniel Farke on the unemployment list, with him being sacked by Norwich City on Saturday even after delivering their first victory of the season. Then there is Newcastle, who are still yet to replace Steve Bruce.

Whenever there is a managerial vacancy you will always see Frank Lampard’s name linked with the position, and that is because it is highly likely that any club WILL look at Lampard when considering new candidates, he is still highly regarded in the game.

I got given some info on Lampard to Norwich this morning that I published before any of the main outlets on my own website, Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, this morning. I’m told he is interested in the role. Others started to confirm the news after…

According to The Telegraph, Norwich will start talks with Lampard this week to become their new manager, and to be honest whilst I’m not sure that this would be the best move for him right now, I can certainly understand and see the positives for Lampard.

Norwich seem to like long term coaches, and Farke was with the club for four years whilst they struggled in the Championship. If they can give Lampard their full backing and assure him that this is a long term project, then I can see him taking this role and I actually think it might be a good low-pressure role despite them being rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

Whilst Norwich say they need a manager to give them a better chance of staying in the Premier League this season, their appointment still points towards the fact it will be a long-term one. So if they couldn’t save them from relegation, the project would continue and the project would turn to getting back to the Premier League once again. So in terms of long term, I think that is something that would appeal to Lampard. No manager can work miracles, and Norwich are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League as we head towards the halfway period, even for the best manager in the world, survival looks like a near mission impossible.

However, my source tells me that Aston Villa would be a more appealing role for Lampard, so we will have to see if anything happens there as well.
