Arsenal’s Catley third in UEFA Women’s Champions League Goal of the Season charts

Arsenal defender Steph Catley’s stunning free-kick scored in the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group match at HB Køge has been voted the third-best strike in this season’s competition.

The Australian international impressively squeezed home the opening goal of the match from 20 yards as The Gunners won 5-1 in Køge in November.

UEFA announced their UEFA Women’s Champions League Goal of the Season rankings earlier today with Catley’s free-kick listed in third place following the consideration of a UEFA Technical Observer panel.

Lyon midfielder Amandine Henry won the award for Goal of the Season with her stunning long range strike being the highlight of a thrilling 3-1 victory for her side over FC Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Turin on Saturday evening. Lyon also claimed second place in the Goal of the Season rankings, forward Ada Hegerberg seeing her looping header against Paris Saint-Germain listed as the runner-up.

In total, the top 10 goals were ranked in the Goal of the Season list. Arsenal defender Catley was one of two Barclays FA Women’s Super League players to make the top 10. Sam Kerr’s goal in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with VfL Wolfsburg at Kingsmeadow in the group stage came out in sixth place.
