Pablo Mari leaves the club

Spanish defender Pablo Mari became the fourth departure from Arsenal in the January transfer window as he joined Italian side Udinese on loan.

Mari, who made three appearances for Arsenal this season. had not played for the Gunners since the Carabao Cup 4th round victory over Wimbledon in September, and will join the Serie A side on loan for the rest of the season in what appears to be a death blow to his Arsenal career.

The left-footed centre-back was Mikel Arteta’s first ever signing as Arsenal manager, and was handed a four year deal at the club in the summer of 2020, but has been outshone by Gabriel in the Arsenal backline and never really cemented a place in the starting XI.

He joins Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Folarin Balogun in leaving the club on loan this January, while Sead Kolasinac departed permanently.

But what about incomings?

Arthur stance made clear

It was thought that Arsenal were making progress in their attempt to take Juventus and Brazil midfielder Arthur Melo on loan for the rest of the season.

The clubs even held face-to-face talks on Wednesday as they looked to hammer out a deal.

However, it may not be simple. As per Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are demanding an 18 month loan with an option to buy in the deal too, as well as looking for a replacement before the deal happens.

This complicates things for Arsenal, and with the return of Thomas Partey, it remains to be seen whether they continue their pursuit of the Juve man.
