The in-state recruiting success continues for Arizona Football as the Wildcats have added 2022 linebacker, Tristan Monday.
It is another Monday, which typically is bad news for most everyone out there, however, with today’s Arizona Football recruiting action, it was a great day for the Wildcats as they have picked up yet another commitment for 2022, this time from in-state linebacker, Tristan Monday.
A three-star recruit and standout linebacker in the class, Tristan hails from the uber-talented Scottsdale Saguaro High School from just up the road, and picked the Wildcats over offers from Baylor, Colorado, Florida State, and Iowa State among others.
Making his announcement via social media on Monday afternoon, the addition of Tristan is a big one. Not only does he become the fifth commitment in the class of 2022, but he is the first commit for Arizona from Scottsdale Saguaro in seemingly forever.
Already roughly three months on the job and head coach Jedd Fisch and staff have gone right into Chandler Hamilton High School and Scottsdale Saguaro High School and has gotten a couple of big-time commitments.
Arizona has not seen much success in those two, storied programs as of recent. Coming in, Fisch said he would prioritize recruiting the state of Arizona, and he surely wasn’t lying, as the program has done a tremendous job in laying the groundwork. Already it is paying early dividends.
So what is Arizona Football getting with their recent commitment from in-state linebacker Tristan Monday?
Considered a three-star prospect, Tristan is rated as the No. 865 player nationally, the No. 58 OLB overall, and the No. 11 best player in the state of Arizona.
He stands a massive 6-feet-4-inches and weighs a sturdy 240 pounds. That kind of size has not been seen for the Wildcats at linebacker, and the hope is that he can potentially stay there, although I see him adding more size to become an edge rusher.
Lining mostly in a four technique for the Sabercats, Tristan is explosive off the line of scrimmage, pinning his ears back and getting after the quarterback.
He shows good eye discipline on film, has a great feel for attacking the football, takes great angles, and finishes the play with ferocity. He is exactly what the Wildcats need to drastically improve this defense, and adding a player like Tristan will certainly do that!
