BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Paraguay international forward Gabriel Avalos scored a goal in each half as Argentinos Juniors broke a three-game winless run with a 2-0 home victory over Union Santa Fe on Sunday.

Avalos headed home the hosts’ first goal following an Andres Roa cross just after the half-hour mark and he doubled the lead with a low right-footed strike three minutes from time.

The result leaves Argentinos Juniors fourth in the 28-team Argentine Primera Division standings with 23 points while Union are 10th, two points further back.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors continued their unimpressive form with a goalless draw at Racing Club. Boca had just 33 percent of possession and 234 completed passes, 228 fewer than their rivals.

Elsewhere, Leonardo Morales struck in the 75th minute to cancel out an Abiel Alesio strike and earn Gimnasia a 1-1 away draw with Velez Sarsfield.

In Sunday’s only other Primera Division fixture, Leonardo Heredia scored in the 93rd minute to fire Estudiantes to a 1-0 home win over Talleres Cordoba.
