MUMBAI, April 28 (Xinhua) — Argentina is working to collaborate with India to set up a turnkey facility for production of Molybdenum-99 (HSA Mo-99), a key input for radiopharmaceuticals used in diagnostic nuclear medicine.
A delegation led by Argentine Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers Santiago Cafiero has visited India’s state-owned Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) based in Mumbai to discuss the ongoing collaboration, a statement from Inida’s Department of Atomic Energy said.
Argentina’s state-owned company M/s INVAP along with the commercial arm of India’s Department of Atomic Energy is setting up a facility for supply of radioisotope products HSA Mo-99 used in the healthcare industry, the statement said.
HSA Mo-99 decays to create technetium-99m (Tc-99m), a radioisotope used by hospitals and medical centers worldwide in nuclear medicine procedures to diagnose heart disease among others.
