Angel City Football Club Signs German Goalkeeper Almuth Schult

LOS ANGELES – Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced the international signing of German goalkeeper Almuth Schult. Schult, an Olympic Gold Medalist with the German National Team (2016) and UEFA Champions League Title winner (2014). She will join Angel City for the 2022 season, making her NWSL debut, after the European Championships on a one-season contract with an option for an additional year.


“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NWSL,” said Schult. “I have followed Angel City since the day the team was announced. It’s so impressive and unique. Everything is not only about football, it’s about impact and supporting women. I am proud to be joining the team and I look forward to the summer.”

Schult will finish her season with Wolfsburg, who are currently in the semi-finals of the Champions League, where she has played since 2013. Prior to joining Wolfsburg, she was with SC 07 Bad Neuenahr (2011-2013), Magdeburger FFC (2008-2011) and Hamburger SV (2007-2008). Her impressive accolades with Wolfsburg include five German championships, seven German cup wins, Champions league title win, European Champion title win, and the gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games. She played her youth career at FC SG Gartow (1996-2007).

It is a special addition to our goalkeeper group and defensive unit.”

“As an expansion team, being able to add a person and player of Almuth’s caliber will further sharpen our club’s competitive edge,” said ACFC Head of Goalkeeping Dan Ball. “Given the multitude of experiences she’s had and at the level she has consistently operated at throughout her career, Almuth will unequivocally make our group of goalkeepers better. We are excited to welcome her, and her family to the West Coast.”

Schult hails from a small town near Dannenberg, Germany with a population of approximately 120 people. She is a mother of two-year-old boy girl twins.
