Ange Postecoglou has firmly dismissed claims that Celtic’s Champions League collapse was a ‘catastrophe’ – insisting this is only the beginning for his team.
The Australian was speaking on BBC Sportsound following the Hoops’ defeat to FC Midtjylland, which sent them crashing out at the second qualifying round.
It means their Champions League dream is over at the first time of asking and he was quizzed about the devastating nature of the loss after the game.
But when journalist Liam McLeod put it to him that the defeat was “catastrophic”, the brash Celtic boss had other ideas.
Postecoglou wasn’t interested in the “strong language” used by the reporter, and questioned his definition of the word.
“That’s some pretty strong language there, mate,” he said. “I don’t know what your definition of catastrophic is, but it doesn’t fit mine”
“Catastrophic to me means the end. This is far from the end.
“You’re suggesting that this is a club falling apart and our season is finished.
“Champions League football is a priority, but I can’t ask any more of the players, they did everything they could.
“The league campaign is starting Saturday and our focus shifts to that.
“Blame? We don’t blame people, I take responsibility, the responsibility is mine.
“You are using really strong language for something I don’t think merits that sort of view.”
Celtic will face Hearts in their Premiership opener this weekend before their European journey continues with a Europa League clash with Jablonec in the Czech Republic.
