A 4-0 defeat to Dakkada FC at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium meant that Adamawa United were finally relegated from the NPFL after two tumultuous years for the club in the league. They only escaped relegation last season because the league was cut short due to COVID, but they could not save themselves this season following a string of below-par performances from the Gombe-based club. Goals from Austin Osayande, Sunday Awasa, Jesam Uket and Rivio Ayemwere saw Dakkada put the final nail in the Adamawa United coffin and send them back to the NNL as they are 15 points from safety with only four games left to play.
Kwara United showed that they are not giving up on their continental aspirations with a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Wikki Tourists at the Kwara Sports Complex in their Matchday 34 encounter. Afonja Warriors’ forward Michael Ohanu scored a 30-minute hattrick for the club to put them 3-0 up and take his personal tally for the season to 11 goals before Chinedu Udeagha pulled one back for the team from Bauchi just before the hour mark. The result leaves Kwara United in sixth place on 55 points, three points outside of the continental places. Wikki Tourists are separated from the drop zone by only one point now in the NPFL.
Enyimba failed to gain ground in their pursuit of the NPFL title after they could only manage a 1-1 draw against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in their Oriental derby at the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi. Uzochukwu Ejiofor opened the scoring for the Anambra Warriors in the 30th minute and looked to have won them the game before Nabil Yarou headed home a delivery from Anayo Iwuala in the 86th minute to level matters for his side. The result leaves Enyimba in fourth place, six points behind Akwa United. The People’s Elephant are also outside of the continental places on goal difference.
