- Let’s just watch the highlights:
- WHO KNOWS?!? “FIFA works in mysterious ways, but at some point soon, soccer’s global governing body is expected to approve Gedion Zelalem’s request to play for the United States. Jurgen Klinsmann and his coaching crew will then have to decide the best course for the 18-year-old Arsenal midfielder. Should he go straight into the senior national team? Given his age and experience, would he be better off at the Under-20 World Cup? And how does Olympic qualifying with the under-23 squad this fall fit into Klinsmann’s master plan?
- Sure, why vote for someone else? “Every one of Africa’s 54 member countries will vote for Sepp Blatter in next month’s FIFA presidential election, the continent’s soccer boss said on Tuesday, referring to the 79-year-old Swiss as ‘dear Sepp.’ In front of Blatter’s three challengers, Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football, promised unanimous support in his speech to open CAF’s annual congress in Cairo.”
- The new Zelalem? “Vancouver’s Kekuta Manneh may be the most exciting young player in MLS. The 20-year-old forward was born in Gambia but finished up high school in Texas. He says he is on path to become a U.S. citizen in August 2016 — he even maintains a residence across the USA-Canada border in Washington and hopes to play for the USA. But will he be snared by the FIFA rule for which U.S. Soccer is seeking an exemption for Gedion Zelalem?”
