Women’s Super-Sixes Weekend 1 Review
Premier Division
Just one point separates the top three teams after the first weekend at Whitgift School in Croydon. After being held to a goalless draw in their first match against Slough, East Grinstead beat Leicester 6-2, Bowdon Hightown 8-5 and Repton 3-2 to go into the second weekend at Repton on ten points.
Repton’s only defeat came at the hands of East Grinstead, and on their home court, Repton will want to build on their victories over Sutton Coldfield (6-3), Leicester (8-2) and Wimbledon (10-3), helped by Sally Walton, who is top of the goalscorer charts with eleven goals ahead of East Grinstead’s Chloe Brown, Wimbledon’s Lucy Holder, and Sutton Coldfield’s Beth Peers, all on six goals.
Reigning champions, Buckingham also suffered one defeat, 3-2 to Bowdon Hightown, and beat Wimbledon 4-2, Holcombe 6-2, and Sutton Coldfield 3-2.
Sutton Coldfield and Bowdon Hightown are also in contention for a place in the top four and qualification for Finals day, on six points.
Slough are on four points, with Leicester, Wimbledon and Holcombe all on three points, all seem set to battle against relegation, although if results go their way on the second weekend, they could all sneak a place in the top four.
Division One
Surbiton and Clifton Robinsons both have hopes of an immediate return to the Premier Division, with Surbiton having won all four games and Clifton Robinsons having lost just one match over the first weekend at Telford.
Surbiton beat Harleston Magpies 4-1, Sevenoaks 6-2, Guildford 5-2, and the University of Birmingham 7-0, with Izzy Petter scoring ten goals to go into the second weekend in Bristol as the division’s top goalscorer.
Clifton Robinsons beat Reading 3-1, Cambridge City 4-3, and Gloucester City 8-1 before losing 3-2 to Guildford. The defeat sent Clifton down to third, on goal difference behind Sevenoaks, 3-1 winners over the University of Birmingham, 7-2 over Harleston Magpies and Gloucester City (9-2).
Guildford are fourth on six points, with Reading on five points, University of Birmingham on four points, Cambridge City and Harleston Magpies on three points with Gloucester City on one point.
Division Two
Beeston, Stourport, Bedford, Knole Park, Canterbury, and Ipswich all qualified for Division Two nationals.
Beeston and Stourport both finished with nine points in Division Two North at the University of Nottingham, with Bedford pipping the City of York to third place on goal difference after both teams finished on six points. Cannock finished fifth after losing all four games.
At Polo Farm, Canterbury, Knole Park won all five matches, with hosts Canterbury finishing second on ten points. Ipswich snatched the third qualification place from St Albans on goal difference. Marlow finished fifth on four points, and the Trojans lost all five games to finish sixth.
