India Make Perfect Start To The Pro-League

Schopmans India starts Pro League with two victories

Janneke Schopman could not have wished for a better start in the Pro League. Her Indian ladies won both their matches against China: 7-1 and 2-1. This puts India in first place for the time being, above the Netherlands and Belgium.

Both matches were played in Oman because the battle for the Asian championship also took place in the capital Muscat last week. In that tournament, India and China met in the bronze medal game. Even then, India was too strong: 2-0.

China, therefore, hoped to take revenge for the defeat in the first game of the Pro League on Monday, but the team was disappointed. The result of 7-1 was the second largest result ever in the women’s national competition. The record is held by the Orange Women, who were 9-0 too strong for the United States in 2020. The result was partly explained by the small selection of the Chinese: only fifteen players were on the scoresheet, Schopman had eighteen players at her disposal.

Also in the second game, on Tuesday, China had to make do with only fifteen players, but then the loss was lower. India’s 2-1, which, just like in the first game, quickly took the lead and thus laid the foundation for the victory, only fell in the last quarter.
