Hampstead Seek First Win At Sugden Road

Men’s Hockey League Preview – 13/14 November

The top two teams in the Men’s Hockey League Premier Division, Surbiton and Wimbledon both play on Saturday night. On what was originally supposed to be their bye week, Surbiton host Hampstead & Westminster in the match postponed due to both teams’ participation in the Euro Hockey League in October. Wimbledon are also at home to Brooklands Manchester University, trailing Surbiton with a 12 inferior goal difference and having played a game more.

Old Georgians, who rebounded back from their first defeat of the season at Wimbledon to rout Hampstead 5-0 on their own pitch last week, are at home on Sunday to Oxted who were involved in a thrilling 4-4 home draw with Brooklands.  Hampstead, currently fourth, follow up their local derby with Surbiton on Saturday with a home match on Sunday against the University of Durham, who return after their bye week.

Holcombe, aiming to cement their place in the top six, are at home to Beeston, who are having a disappointing season having lost 3-2 at the University of Durham and 5-1 at home to Surbiton in their last two matches.

And East Grinstead and the University of Exeter, the bottom two teams in the division, meet in Devon, knowing that both teams can’t now qualify for the top six, but the result could have a big bearing on whether either or both teams face a relegation battle during the second half of the season.
