Southgate Hockey Club has today appointed Kwan Browne as their new Men’s Head Coach ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
Kwan returns to Southgate, a club he played for in 1997/1998, after 7 successful years with
Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club and with whom he won the Premier Division Championship
in 2019. He will continue his work with the GB squad as an assistant coach.
Kwan said of his appointment, “It’s a great opportunity to join Southgate, a sleeping giant in club
hockey, they are looking to take the next step and I look forward to help taking them to the next
level
“Southgate HC Club Chairman Neil Murphy said today, “We are delighted to welcome Kwan back to
Southgate. He has a tremendous track record as a coach and player and I know he shares the Club’s
excitement as we start on the next phase of our development. We have and always will be a family
club but we are also one with big ambiFons. Central to this is the aim to develop all our players and
for Southgate to be the best place to play hockey. Kwan will be instrumental in helping us achieve all
this and making sure we enjoy it along the way.”
Kwan will be looking to bring the glory days back to Southgate, having previously defended their European title on occasions, being crowned champions in 1979, 1977 and 1978.
Currently in Germany with England for their Pro-League campaign, where he is the assistant coach to both England and Great Britain, Kwan enjoyed a memorable 17-year international playing career with Trinidad and Tobago. Kwan brings with him a wealth of experience and a charm and charisma like no other.
