The AFF is committed to the continual development, and increased competitiveness, of State Fencing around the country and is pleased to announce changes aimed at supporting this development.
To assist in increasing both the number of fencers entering State Championships and the level of competition around the country, the AFF’s High Performance Commission has set out guidelines and protocols making participation at a State Championships a pre-requisite for attending the National Championships (excluding National Junior Championships this year). This change will be complimented by the inclusion of results at State Championships to a fencers National Ranking, further incentivising fencers to participating in State level competitions. Exemptions will be available to fencers in special circumstances where Alternative Events are available.
These guidelines were first flagged in 2021 as in inclusion in the High Performance Commission announcements. The AFF is confident these changes will have a positive impact on State Fencing and will support our members and Member States with the introduction of the guidelines and protocols.
These new changes are outlined in the State Championships Operation Guidelines document found on the AFF website HERE.
It is important that athletes keep abreast of the various State Championships, and Alternative Events, these will be advertised on the National Competition Calendar shortly. The calendar is available HERE.
