WAIVER WIRE GAMEWEEK 5: ONES TO WATCH

With tears barely dry on the cheeks of Salah owners across the country, we dive headfirst back into a premier league fixture list as the first set of midweek fixtures of the 22/23 season get under way. Will Perisic play three games in a row…? Will Klopp play the kids…? Will Pep play the kitman for the matter? Let’s find out with three more waiver picks for a late punt on Gameweek 5…

Matheus Nunes (Wolves)                          MID                     Bournemouth (A)

As highly coveted as Matheus Nunes is, I did not see myself picking him as a tip for fantasy football points. 4 shots in the box later and here we are however. It’s these kind of stats that saw Bruno Guimares take on a whole new persona in the middle of Newcastle’s midfield last season and with two defensively capable midfielders alongside him and facing a managerless and (severely) wounded Bournemouth side, I think this is the week that Nunes converts performances into points.

Pascal Struijk (Leeds)                   DEF                      Everton (H)

Despite having seen their back line decimated over the closing 6 weeks of their survival campaign, it will have surprised strikers and fantasy managers alike to see a new and improved stinginess in Leeds defensive numbers. Even fewer probably saw the more aerially renowned Pascal Struijk look so comfortable slotting in at left-back, but with a string of solid performances and up against a goal-shy Everton side, I can see points on the horizon for the young Dutchman.

Michael Olise (Crystal Palace)                  MID                     Brentford (H)

With Eze, Andersen and of course Zaha looking like they mean business, Palace have put in an impressive start to the season and despite being on the receiving end of a 4-2 loss to City, this shouldn’t have disheartened the Eagles. With Zaha potentially out and Viera looking to bolster Palaces attacking threat, I’m hopeful of seeing Olise in the starting line up sooner rather than later and points will surely not be too far behind.

Best of luck with Gameweek 5 everyone!
