Player props have become one of my favorite ways to dive into NFL action without worrying about who wins or loses. I’m always looking for more fun and exciting ways to bet on the NFL & recently, weekly player matchups have begun to pique my interest. Passing+Receiving yards matchups caught my eye this week so I perused the odds on WynnBet & chose a couple of my favorites.
Josh Allen + Stefon Diggs -140 vs. Big Ben + Chase Claypool
These two teams played last year & neither QB had much success with Allen throwing for 238 yards & Ben going for just 187. This wasn’t too surprising considering both of these defenses rank among the league’s best. The glaring difference however was Stefon Diggs still posted 10 receptions for a game leading 130 yards while Chase Claypool was held to 3 catches for only 15 yards. Their respective target distributions will be similar and although I expect Ben & Claypool to be slightly more successful than that during week 1, Chase is just part of the passing offense as opposed to Diggs leading Buffalo’s. The sheer volume that Diggs will see in addition to Buffalo’s lack of running game make this a no brainer to me. Allen to Diggs will continue to be uttered a lot starting this week.
Jared Goff + TJ Hockenson +245 vs. Jimmy Garoppolo + George Kittle
This number seems too high to me & one I’m jumping all over it. San Fran is looking to return to 2019 form which saw them rank 2nd in both attempts & yards on the ground. I understand that George Kittle is a beast, but the 49ers are healthy and have legit threats out wide now with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.They’re also tied with the Rams as the largest favorites (-7.5) during Sunday’s games and should be leading the majority of the game. Their opposition Detroit is rolling with a “no-name” WR corps, D’Andre Swift is already dealing with an injury, & their defense is extremely young. Expected game script along with lack of competition lead me to believe Hockenson is in line to finally breakout this season & be Jared Goff’s favorite target starting week 1. One more factor which could limit Jimmy G’s overall production is the potential inclusion of Trey Lance in the offense. I think the 49ers are up big early in this one forcing Detroit to go pass heavy which will lead to Goff besting Garoppolo & Hockenson producing similar to Kittle. +245 for a QB & alpha combo?
