Top Six PL Teams Fixtures till GW8

The full version of the FDR’s do check it out on my Twitter, The fixtures for the top six are zoomed-in below!

MANCHESTER CITY

This is how the fixtures look in the first eight gameweeks of the season. Fixture difficulty rating is based on data from FiveThirtyEight. Analyzing till GW8 is a good sample as we have an international break right after GW8.

The reigning champions start off with a good run of fixtures, especially from a defensive standpoint. On the back of a season where they conceded just 26 goals from an xGC (Expected goals conceded) of 27.2, with no team faring better, the familiar faces of Cancelo & Laporte could be great options to start the season with. Let’s not forget the fact that City also topped the goalscoring charts with 99 goals from an xG (Expected Goals) of 89.

We could only assume that the attack would be further bolstered by the addition of Haaland. Speaking of the Norwegian, his underlying numbers are in the elite territory with an npxG (Non-penalty expected goals) + xA (Expected assists) of 0.92 in his UCL & Bundesliga career. If Aguero’s npxG+xA of 0.86 in the UCL & Premier League games for Man City is any indication of the amount of chances Haaland is likely to get, it would be hard to ignore him.

LIVERPOOL

An early triple-up could be on the cards with Chelsea in GW8 seemingly the first real test, unless United significantly improve in terms of personnel and performances. Liverpool created the most xG (89.2) of all teams last season and Salah (again!) is looking like the go-to option for captaincy in GW1 when Liverpool face the newly-promoted Fulham.

CHELSEA

Chelsea’s fixtures don’t look encouraging from a defensive standpoint as the supposedly easy fixtures are against teams like Leeds and Southampton that are capable of ruining that clean sheet. The loss of Rudiger doesn’t help either. That said, the marauding wing-backs, James and Chilwell, could potentially have other avenues for points when they face some of the leakiest defences of last season in Leeds, Leicester, and Southampton, and the newly-promoted Fulham. Mount could be on the radar as well for these fixtures.

TOTTENHAM

Though Tottenham start the campaign with a home fixture against a leaky Southampton, their fixtures in the first eight gameweeks are a mixed bag. It seems we have an early decision to make between Son/Kane who is nailed on for minutes and Haaland or another City attacker who has the better fixtures, unless we decide to shoehorn in three premium attackers.

ARSENAL

Arsenal have a great run of fixtures in the first eight gameweeks with an out-of-sorts United being the only top six side they would face in that period. We can’t expect the pricing to be as kind as last season’s, but it seems they are a team to target regardless.

MANCHESTER UNITED

United are probably a team to avoid, with Brighton, Liverpool, Leicester, Arsenal and Palace up in the first seven gameweeks.
