FPL GW32 Transfer Trends And Best Transfer Combinations

Welcome to FPL GW32 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.

GW31 was an interesting Gameweek for captaincy, as there were a few prominent picks to go for. The big hitters of Salah and Kane remained relatively quiet for the most part, while other assets, particularly in the defense, reaped rewards for owners.

The biggest thing heading into GW32 is the fact that there isn’t a standout fixture pick. The big teams that typically have the more popular assets do not have the best fixtures this gameweek. Seems like a lot is up in the air with where the returns will come from.

This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from Leicester, West Ham, Brentford, and Spurs. The top 5 transfers OUT come from Aston Villa, Arsenal, Southampton, Liverpool, and Wolves.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW32 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 25/31 record this year. Stay tuned for the GW32 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 32 blogs.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL GW32

FPL GW32 Transfer Trends ~ Most transferred in and transferred out players

Coutinho is the most transferred out player ahead of the GW32 deadline, with 125k managers not satisfied with his third consecutive blank. Tierney’s injury sees 115k managers ship him out, followed by Broja (74k) due to his ineligibility to play for his parent club and lack of returns.

Salah’s lackluster form sees another 63k managers take him out of their teams, and, finally, Jimenez sees 48k managers look elsewhere for forward options.

On the flip side, Maddison makes the top spot of the top transfers in list, with 93k managers already bringing him in ahead of Leicester’s favourable fixtures and 3 double gameweeks. He is followed by West Ham’s Bowen, who was initially one of the more transferred out players. Now, he sees 89k managers bring him back in after his 13 point haul in GW31.

Toney impressed 79k managers after scoring 5 goals and 1 assist in the last 4 games, and Spurs defender Doherty is brought in by 72k managers after his stellar 14 point haul against Newcastle. Son follows closely behind, with 66k managers impressed with his performance against Newcastle.

The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Coutinho to Maddison, Tierney to Doherty, and Coutinho to Son.

FPL GW32 Transfer Combination 1:

Philippe Coutinho (£7.3) to James Maddison (£6.8)

FPL GW32 Transfer Combination 1 ~ Philippe Coutinho (£7.3) to James Maddison (£6.8)
Leicester's fixtures from GW32-38
Leicester’s fixtures from GW32-38

After Coutinho’s third consecutive blank, a whopping 49.3% of managers have already made the swap to Leicester midfielder James Maddison.

Maddison’s appeal is boosted with the announcement of Leicester’s 3 upcoming double gameweeks in GWs33, 36, and 37. The fixtures themselves look relatively favourable as well. Leicester assets could see them being good holds until the end of the season.

Among all Leicester attackers this season, Maddison is the best for total shots (54), shots on target (25), big chances created (8), and key passes (33). Being on set-pieces, this boosts his creativity appeal and goal involvement.

Fellow teammate Harvey Barnes is actually a pretty decent pick to go for too, particularly if you’re looking to chase with a differential. Maddison provides that security and creativity, but Barnes packs more goal threat.

So far this season, they have only kept 3 clean sheets in all away games versus 6 clean sheets in all home games.

Additionally, according to Drafthound, Leicester have 24% odds of scoring 2.5+ more goals. Palace have 18% odds of keeping a clean sheet against Leicester. A good game for Maddison and Leicester to target.

FPL GW32 Transfer Combination 2:

Kieran Tierney (£5.1) to Matt Doherty (£4.9)

FPL GW32 Transfer Combination 2 ~ Kieran Tierney (£5.1) to Matt Doherty (£4.9)
Spurs' fixtures from GW32-38
Spurs’ fixtures from GW32-38

With the news of Tierney’s long-term injury, 19.9% of managers have been quick to bring in Spurs defender Doherty into their teams.

Which is no surprise, after Doherty’s stellar 14 point haul in GW31, scoring a goal and assist. With Spurs’ favourable fun of fixtures until the end of the season, he is a great hold.

In the last 6 gameweeks, he has registered 4 shots, 2 on target, 4 in the box, 2 big chances, an xG of 0.99 (2nd best among all defenders), an xGI of 1.2, and 8 touches in the box.

For those looking for a budget defender with a good stretch of fixtures, Doherty could be your pick. He is still only owned by 8.1% of managers, making his returns very differential.

Who do Spurs face in GW32?

Spurs play Aston Villa away in GW32. While Villa are not the worst defense out there, they have conceded 6 goals in the last 6 gameweeks, only keeping 3 clean sheets. They have an xGC of 1.18.

According to Drafthound, they have 17% odds of keeping a clean sheet. With the current confidence and form, Spurs are carrying with them, they should be looking to bring their best against Villa.

Villa have an xGC of 1.18, on the higher end among all teams.

While Kane is in a large majority of FPL teams at the moment, Son is another Spurs asset worth considering for those who are able to squeeze him in, whether via transfers or on a wildcard.

24.5% of managers have already made the move from Coutinho to Son, especially after his 12 point haul against Newcastle last gameweek, scoring a goal and an assist. He has now returned in 4 out of the last 6 games, registering 5 goals and 1 assist.

Among all Spurs midfielders in the last 6 gameweeks, Son is joint best for total shots (17 with Kulusevski), best for shots in the box (13), shots on target (11), big chances (8), xG (0.52), xGI (0.9), and key passes (20). His set-piece duty further enhances his creativity appeal.

Seems like the Spurs assets have found their groove, and, given their great run of fixtures, it would be worth considering at least two Spurs assets. Son is one to own alongside Kane in the attack.
