Fantasy Football’s Cost Effective Wing Wizards

It hasn’t really been a season for big hitting strikers, which has made Fantasy Football something of a frustrating game to play so far.

Harry Kane has been missing for Spurs, Romelu Lukaku started promisingly but is now injured, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Patrick Bamford are also injured and Ivan Toney hasn’t really taken the Premier League by storm as many predicted.

Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio have both delivered, but even they’ve gone a bit quiet over the last couple of gameweeks.

It means many Fantasy Football managers have been forced to put more value into their midfield players, and there are so many to choose from.

Unsurprisingly, it’s the wingers  who appear to boast much of the fantasy value so far this season. But while most will already own the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez, it often pays to take a look a bit further down the pay structures to find some cost effective gems who still have the ability to return high Fantasy Football returns.

So here’s a look at three wing wizards you should be considering for your Fantasy Football team from GW11 onwards…

Jarrod Bowen – West Ham United

Bowen has had a relatively slow start to the season, registering just two goals and two assists in 10 games but he registered on of each in West Ham’s 4-1 win at Aston Villa last weekend.

His xG of 3.86 suggests, though, that’s he currently underperforming when it comes to goalscoring. That’s an indication that he’s due to a bit of a purple patch in front of goal and, with the way West Ham are playing right now – one defeat in their last nine games in all competitions – it’s hard not to imagine the winger building on his performance against Villa moving forward.

The Hammers do have a tough home fixture against Liverpool this weekend and also have fixtures against both Man City and Chelsea coming up in the next few weeks, but the Hammers have already shown over the last 18 months that they can still give the best teams in the league a run for their money, so fixture difficulty shouldn’t affect Bowen too much.

Raphinha – Leeds United

The Brazil international has struggled a bit with fitness of late but remains one of Marcelo Bielsa’s biggest attacking threats at Leeds.

He so far has four goals from nine Premier League appearances this term but is yet to register a single assist. His xG stats of 2.02 suggest he’s outperforming in front of goal so far, He has four goals in nine Premier League appearances this term, which outperforms his xG of 2.02, but it’s his xA stats (1.52) that point to the fact his creativity is yet to earn the rewards it deserves.

That will surely change in the coming weeks as Leeds prepare to take on Leicester (H), Tottenham (A), Brighton (A), Crystal Palace (H) and Brentford (H).

While Patrick Bamford remains sidelined, there is increased reliance of Raphinha to chip in with attacking returns and so far he’s produced, but there’s still so much more to come from him and this Leeds team, who have struggled to pick up results so far this term.

Bukayo Saka – Arsenal

The 20-year-old has certainly come of age over the last year and is proving how effective he can be as a wide attacking player for the Gunners.

Saka has made two goals and two assists in all competitions so far this season and has averaged just under two shots and two key passes per game.

In the Premier League, he has just one goal and two assists, with his xG stats of 2.23 suggesting he’s currently underperforming slightly in the goals department, while his xA of 1.59 are around where he currently is as a creative outlet.

Arsenal face Watford (H), Liverpool (A), Newcastle (H), Man United (A), Everton (A), Southampton (H) and West Ham (H) between now and the middle of December, and Saka will be looking at those fixtures as ideal for him to be amongst the goals and assists more often than he already has been.
