The break has been far longer than expected, but at last the season is starting. The calendar may still change somewhat during the year, but we start off with Austria, and then go all the way to Austria.
Track Stats:
4.318km long lap
71 lap race
306.578km total race distance
10 corners
33rd Austrian GP, 32nd at the Red Bull Ring (first Austrian GP was at Zeltweg Airfield)
9 wins from pole positions (29.03%)
The smallest percentage of wins from pole of any circuit on the grid
Two wins of the six (33%) since the Austrian GP has returned to the calendar have been won from pole
17 wins from the front row (54.84%)
Also the smallest percentage of wins from the front row of any circuit on the grid
McLaren have the most wins at the track with six
Alain Prost is the driver with the most wins with three
The gap between the 2019 Abu Dhabi GP and the 2020 Austrian GP is the 6th longest gap between two consecutive F1 World Championship Grand Prix
Driver/Team Stats:
Nicholas Latifi will make his F1 debut
With Latifi and Stroll both on the grid, it will be the first F1 race with two Canadians since Gilles and Jacques (the elder) Villeneuve entered the 1981 Caesar’s Palace GP
Jacques did not qualify for the race, so the last time two Canadians actually RACED in F1 was Al Pease and Bill Brack at the 1969 Canadian GP
If Hamilton wins it will be the 290th win for a British driver
Verstappen will be entering his 80th race for Red Bull and Albon his 10th
Silly Stats:
The Red Bull Ring could be covered with 18,792,576 cans of Red Bull. That’s enough cans to create a tower 1,565 miles tall and enough Red Bull to fill two Olympic sized swimming pools.
The shape of Austria looks somewhat similar to a chicken drumstick, and you could cover the track with around 14,420,000 of them, enough for every person in Austria to have a drumstick and still have six million drumsticks left over.
