Calling all esports communities! Together with Opera GX, we’re thrilled to announce that, starting today, organizers on Challengermode will be able to apply for prize pool funding from the Opera GX Grassroots Fund.
Initially, the fund is focused on organizers actively hosting competitions in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Valorant, and Teamfight Tactics. The fund is a first of its kind and organizers of all shapes and sizes are welcome to apply — any funding can be used to directly sponsor your tournaments on Challengermode.
Our ambition is that together with Opera GX, we will be able to promote the growth of smaller organizers through Challengermode by allowing them to scale up their activities while simultaneously cutting costs. We believe that increasing the staying power of emerging esports communities is critical to establishing a healthy ground-level infrastructure in esports.
“Grassroots esports communities act as the introduction to esports for thousands of players around the world. But because of the evolving nature of the esports space local and third-party efforts organisations are often fragmented, underfunded, and lack the polish you’d expect from an established sport. These are pain points we want to eliminate with this fund, empowering esports organizers to easily create their own dedicated space for their community, reducing their costs and giving players a respectable prize pool.”
Philip Hübner, Chief Business Development Officer.
A total of $30,000 will be distributed to various organizers through the fund and organizers will be given the opportunity to register their interest via the Opera GX Grassroots Fund website here. The application period starts today and will remain open throughout the duration of the three-month campaign while applications are assessed.
