The final LCO Super Week matchday of the year is, sadly, upon us and there are massive playoff implications up and down the schedule.
Firstly, Gravitas takes on Legacy in what is shaping up to be a “loser leaves town” match, if town were LCO playoff contention.
Order takes on a ‘white-hot’ Mammoth, who have achieved their first win this week, and then followed it up with…well, a first blood… against Legacy.
Peace and the Chiefs match up in a clash of the two most out-of-form teams in the league, alongside Gravitas. Both will be looking to reverse their respective loss streaks.
Friday’s feature match is the main event of the evening; a revitalised Pentanet.GG, newly reminted at the top of the standings, taking on the Dire Wolves who are firing on all cylinders after looking destined for the scrap heap earlier in the split.
Perry’s Pick of the Week: DW vs PGG
Oceania’s veterans have taken a shine to nine match days in three weeks, because both PGG and DW are both coming into the match in their split-best form.
Both squads have found a formula that works and stuck to it, notably PGG, who have ridden a Lee Sin/X/Leona bottom half of the map to their last three wins. Over on the Dire Wolves side, they’ve ridden a Camille/Xin Zhao/Mage top half to their last three wins, stopping only for a Goodo Xin Zhao pick to interrupt it.
So, it’s clear both teams know their identities and are facing little opposition to the picks that they are comfortable with. Exploiting this could be a key factor to a win.
The major focus of each teams’ run and more than likely the winner of this match lies in who wins the mid lane battle. Each team has multiple tools to influence this matchup as well, with both junglers knowing how to support their mid laner, and both supports being at their best when roaming to assist.
With that in mind, I think the win comes down to who unleashes their side lanes to be able to free up their mid, which in turn allows them to play mid-late with more options by having more map control. I don’t think we’re looking at a straight mid gap — it’s whoever puts their mid laner in the best place to succeed.
It’s a tantalizing matchup and one that’s too close to call easily. I think it’ll be very close, with a 50/50 moment likely to crack open the battle. Given that I’m forced to pick a winner, I’m going to take the pedigree and overall team fighting prowess of PGG to come out on top, in a match that really could go either way.
Be sure to tune in, as Friday’s game starts Oceania’s path to Worlds!
