Overbuff Recall – May 13, 2022 – Overbuff

Unless Blizzard decides to extend the beta over the weekend, it’s set to end on Tuesday, May 17 at 1 pm Central (6 pm GMT), the normal patch time.

You can see the patch notes with full developer notes on the Overwatch patch notes page.

Baptiste

  • Regenerative Burst: Now heals for 50 instantly and 50 over time, instead of 100 over time. Additionally, the instant heal portion will be doubled on targets that are 50% or lower health.

Mercy

  • Guardian Angel: Can now also be canceled by using the crouch key. If this key is used to cancel the ability, Mercy will be launched high into the air.

Dev Notes: This is an initial implementation of new functionality designed to give Mercy players more options in how they use Guardian Angel. Some Mercy players were already able to do similar boosts by using a somewhat complicated technique often referred to as ‘Super jump’. This new functionality will allow all players to more consistently perform similar boosts, while the original technique is still there and remains untouched.

In some ways this new cancel boost is even stronger than the original technique, since players are able to do this at any time rather than requiring them to be near their target. This is just an initial implementation and we’re eager to get feedback on how to improve it.

Sojourn

  • Railgun primary rate of fire increased from 13 to 15 shots-per-second.
  • Railgun maximum ammo increased from 40 to 45.

The opening weekend was a bit clunky as production crew cleaned out the cobwebs, but that isn’t anything new for people who remember the Cheez-Its branding difficulties of the past. The issue that stood out the most was the massive frame rate loss on the US stream. Disappointing is that official co-streaming was only allowed on the first day and it had to be done on YouTube. That means immediately co-streamers went right back to Twitch where their brands are associated the next day, if they did it at all.

Florida Mayhem Forced to Re-do Attack

In their game against Paris Eternal on Sunday, the Florida Mayhem were forced to do their attack a second time after beginning with an illegal Mei Wall + Symmetra teleporter strategy. You can see the clip of it here.

Teams have reportedly known for years this move was illegal but Florida did it here anyway either hoping to get away with it, or more likely forgetting this little-used strat. Either way, the community’s reaction was mixed, calling it punishment for “innovation” or saying if they knew it was illegal, they got what they deserved.
