ESL ANZ Champs Preview (February 27)

ESL Australia’s ANZ Champs has returned for Season 14, and will start tonight with Order taking on Camo and Vertex battling against Dynasty.

There are more question marks over the scene than ever before; plenty of top teams have made adjustments over the off-season, with the regulars getting early overseas experience under their belts ahead of the Championship.

Order, Renegades and Vertex received direct invites to this season of ANZ Champs, while 13 more teams made it through the open qualifier, including big names Paradox, Antic Esports and ex-8Ballers.

Reigning champions LookingForOrg will not be present for ANZ Champs Season 14, with the team still competing and bootcamping in Europe.

Order will be seeking their fourth ANZ Champs title after falling just short to LFO last season, while Renegades enter the Championship for the first time since Season 11.

ESL ANZ Champs, and it’s lower tier in ANZ Main, will run side-by-side throughout the next two months before the playoffs commence in early May.

ESL ANZ Champs S14 rosters

The region is in the midst of a massive reshuffle, with more roster changes planned in the coming month.

Luke “ekul” Bailey announced his retirement following Order’s win at Rivalry’s Insanely Awesome CS:GO Tournament, but will stand-in for the team until further notice.

Liam “malta” Schembri has completed his move from Renegades to Vertex, while Jay “Liazz” Tregillgas will remain in the Renegades roster for the beginning of ESL ANZ Champs. Sources indicate he was standing in for RNG temporarily at IEM Katowice.

UPDATE March 10: Isaac “prodigy” Dahlan announced that Darcy “Mr Shark” Clarke will permanently replace Julian “JoolzCheat” Griffin going forward.

UPDATE March 14: Long-time FPS veteran Tyler “tucks” Reilly, currently competing for Order’s Valorant division, will replace ekul as Order CS’ temporary stand-in as their hunt for a new fifth continues.

UPDATE March 17: Going forward, DoMilk will compete under “Collateral Esports” across all currently qualified events.

UPDATE March 21: It was confirmed last week that 8Ballers would be closing operations, with both the main and female line-up now searching for a new home.

Overt’s CS:GO squad will also be departing their organisation; the teams will compete as ex-8Ballers and ex-Overt henceforth.

UPDATE March 22: ex-Overt have been acquired by Antic Esports following their departure from Overt yesterday.

UPDATE March 31: Tyler “tucks” Reilly officially replaces Luke “ekul” Blakey at Order. The CS:GO-turned-Valorant veteran returns to Counter-Strike officially after two years at Order’s Valorant division. He previously represented Chiefs for five years, seeing the squad to three IEM Sydney showings.
