The Pro-Am Classic Champion has been crowned
The Call of Duty League Pro-Am Classic concluded last night, and following some incredible matches, the champion has finally been crowned. Last night we saw the final four go head to head following three days of intense matches as they looked to become the champion of the first Call of Duty League Pro-Am Classic.
With the final four featuring New York Subliners, Toronto Ultra, LA Thieves and OpTic Texas, here’s a recap of every map from day four, and who came out on top.
New York Subliners 3-1 Toronto Ultra
Since the addition of Kismet to the New York Subliners roster, the team has been exceptional at Bocage Hardpoint. While their excellence would have seen many teams ban Bocage in the map vetoes, Toronto Ultra had no fear. However, maybe they should have. New York took the map 250-206, with Hydra dropping a big 40 kills to go 1-0 up in the series.
Toronto Ultra’s Search and Destroy has looked back to their Cold War level in the Pro-Am Classic so far, and they showed this again with a dominant 6-1 win on Desert Siege. Bance was dominant in map one, putting up the highest kills in the lobby with 43. While he didn’t quite reach that level in the Search and Destroy, his 2.33 K/D saw Ultra tie the series heading into the Hardpoint.
The Control looked to have a clear winner in the Toronto Ultra after they took a 2-1 lead. However, the New York Subliners took the fourth-round offense with just four seconds left and a massive two-piece from PaulEhx. This situation then seemed to repeat itself in the final round as the Subliners clutched up and took the map 3-2, taking a 2-1 series lead.
Map four was just as close as the rest, as the lobby remained on Tuscan. The lead went back and forth throughout the map, and it came down to the final hill. To clutch up and win the map, it took an exceptional break from the Subliners, taking down all four members of the Toronto Ultra team and getting in the hill for the final points. NYSL took the series 3-1 and advance to the Grand Finals.
LA Thieves 3-1 OpTic Texas
OpTic Texas and LA Thieves have both looked great in the latter half of the Pro-Am Classic. With OpTic Texas playing with General, their sub player, they took down Atlanta FaZe to get here, and are looking to go the distance. In map one, LA Thieves came out strong with a 250-178 Hardpoint win on Berlin. Ex-OpTic player Envoy dominated, putting up 33 kills and a 1.32 K/D as the Thieves took a 1-0 series lead.
Search and Destroy so far in the Pro-Am Classic has looked great for OpTic Texas, and this continued with a 6-1 victory on Bocage to tie the series 1-1. The whole OpTic roster went positive here, with Dashy putting up a 3.50 K/D alongside his 7 kills as they dominated the map and looked ahead to a Gavutu Control. The Thieves bounced back in the Control as they dominated their defensive rounds, and claimed defense for round five. Here, they clutched up to stop OpTic from capturing the B point, and held on to defend the points and win the map. Kenny picked it up in this map, putting up 29 kills and a 1.38 K/D as LA Thieves took a 2-1 lead in the series.
The LA Thieves closed out the series in a 3-1 victory with a 250-228 Hardpoint win on Tuscan. Envoy went big once again bringing in full streaks, and finally using them to break the final P1 hill, and get in to gain the final points. Envoy’s 31 kills in map four were enough to bring his LA Thieves team the map win and a visit to the finals.
New York Subliners 3-1 LA Thieves
The LA Thieves went into this Grand Final looking for revenge over the New York Subliners following their 3-0 defeat at the start of the Pro-Am Classic. They did just that in map one with a 250-85 victory on Berlin. Envoy continued his performance from the semi-finals with an insane 9 spree as he put NYSL in a trap, and led his LA Thieves team to a 1-0 series lead.
The New York Subliners bounced back in map two with a 6-3 victory on Tuscan, the same map they completed the full sail on earlier in the Pro-Am. Kismet dominated with 9 kills and a 3.00 K/D as the New York Subliners tied the series in the Pro-Am Classic Grand Final, but entered a dangerous Gavutu Control. The LA Thieves looked to be taking map three, but it was Hydra for the New York Subliners who put up 35 kills and a 1.75 K/D as they clutched up and took a 2-1 series lead.
The Subliners closed out the CDL Pro-Am Classic victory in one of the best and most exciting Hardpoint maps we’ve seen all year. This 250-237 win on Tuscan saw great matches from both Hydra and Crimsix as they went on to lift the trophy. NYSL took home $100K for winning this event, and they’ll need to replicate this success in the Majors.
What’s next for the rest of the season?
The Call of Duty League had a long break between Major 2 and the Pro-Am, but that’s not the case for the next Major. Major 3 qualifiers are just around the corner and get underway this week on Friday, May 13th. Across the next three weekends, we’ll see all 12 Call of Duty League teams go head-to-head in qualification for Major 3 that will be held by Toronto Ultra.
Following that, we, unfortunately, have another month-long break before Major 4, held by the New York Subliners. Finally, we’ll head to the Championship Weekend, likely at the end of August.
