Evil Geniuses’ League of Legends squad support Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme was definitely ready to battle against his former teammate for a long time, however quite unexpectedly in a direct support matchup.
In a recent interview Vulcan provided an interesting insight on what makes Zven a great player, after departing from C9 around the end of last year, Vulcan helped EG progress massively towards their most successful split in their LCS timeline, winning the Spring Playoffs and representing North America at the Mid Season Invitational.
Unfortunately C9 was not able to field their predicted main roster today due to the now usual visa issues, but instead brought Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen back to the main roster after some time on the Academy team, however this time not as a bot laner but as a support. He will be joining forces with bot laner Berserker, who debuted with the Cloud 9 team in the Spring Split, giving Zven a challenge of a new teammate and a new role all at once. Vulcan is confident Zven will have little to no issues adjusting to his new role, as the two previously dominated the LCS from the moment they began playing as a duo on Cloud 9.
Vulcan further said:
“The best support players are those that played ADC in the past; that’s where I come from too” “I think it’s just about how well he can click with his team. But I think Zven was always the kind of teammate that can work easily with a bunch of different players so, in my mind, it won’t be an issue.” “Zven is very good mechanically, and I think he’ll be able to play support no doubt” “There’s definitely a learning curve though in the support role. There’s a lot of small things you have to know. I expect him to not be very good out the gate…but I think he can be quite good.”
Even after one game, Zven’s recent stats back Vulcan’s statements up. After being a staple member of Cloud 9’s main roster for a really long time since his debut with the team back in 2020, he was placed on the Academy roster during the previous Spring Split to create room for the debuts of Berserker and Winsome. Nevertheless, Zven worked with the C9 Academy team, consisting of multiple players he had never played professionally with before, earning a second-place finish in the regular Academy season moving to the quarter finals of the Proving Grounds Stage.
Zven will now return to playing with older teammates Fudge and Blaber, while he will compete with Jensen for the first time on the same team.
After today’s game, Vulcan will have to wait all the way until the final match of the Summer Split on August 14th to get a chance to compete once more against Zven. In the meantime, the crowned LCS champions will look to continue moving forward with momentum from the Spring Playoffs, as they have a tough battle against 100 Thieves today.
