When riding all of the bikes back to back in the 450 Motocross Shootout, one would assume the Yamaha YZ450F produces some of the highest peak horsepower and torque figures in the class due to its quick throttle response, aggressive character, and gobs of midrange torque. That is not the case, however.
Of all the bikes in the segment, bLU cRU’s top-of-the-line motocrosser ranks fifth in peak horsepower and ties the Kawasaki KX450 for least peak torque with its 52.8 hp at 9,500 rpm and 32.4 pound-feet of torque at 7,600 rpm. Nonetheless, the YZ450F packs more than enough punch for most mortals to handle. As test rider Allan Brown put it: “This engine could tow a YZ125 up hills and still pass other 450s.”
