Cream thrillingly rises to the top at the Winter Gardens
Postcard from Blackpool, with Betfred TV’s Mark Pearson
Wow ……………………… that is the only word that describes Peter Wright’s performance against Michael Van Gerwen. He threw a breath-taking average of 110.37, and chucked a lovely 12 maximums.
🗣 “I had to play well or I’d be out.”
Peter Wright just put on one of the most incredible performances ever seen on the World Matchplay Stage as he beat MVG with a 110.37 average.
He’ll face his old lodger Dimitri van den Bergh in the Final.#WorldMatchplay | @OfficialPDC pic.twitter.com/gsY0rGysfT

That was one of the greatest-ever performances at the Winter Gardens, and we now look forward to a final against the current Betfred World Matchplay Champ Dimitri Van Den Berg.
Some questioned last year’s win, suggesting that the Belgian (above) only won because it was behind closed doors. The 27 year old is in the final and he loves the Blackpool crowd, and the Blackpool crowd love him.
He even addressed them after his win over Krzysztof Ratajski like some kind of rock star, and his nickname is Dream Maker. At the moment he is living it, and dancing his way to the final.
Peter Wright has been the best player throughout the week and, quite rightly, he’s the 8/13 favourite for this final. But although I expect Snake Bite to win his first Betfred Matchplay crown, this will be a close and highly entertaining affair.
This is going to be one tungsten tussle by the Seaside. Bring it on ……. and as we said last night, below – whatever you had on this evening, cancel it!

Whenever you bet, Betfred
Peter Wright 8/13
Dimitri Van den Bergh 13/10
One of the most incredible nights at the Winter Gardens.@snakebitewright could have been 5-0 up with a 134 average against MVG at one point this evening.
Whatever you have planned tomorrow night, cancel it.
