Primoz Roglic already seems close to giving up on his dream of winning the Tour de France after he lost 3min48s in Le Creusot.
After he finished stage 7, the Slovenian admitted that the pain of the fall he suffered few days ago is still present, also exacerbated by a very fast day and the long distance. Within the Dutch team, therefore, the alternative plans have already started, with Wout Van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard who could now enjoy greater freedom.
“It was a fast start and I resented the blows of the third stage”, said Roglic.
Grischa Niermann, sports director of the Jumbo-Visma, admits that “the team must rebuild itself.”
“After the fall of Tony Martin because of the spectator and that of Primoz with Colbrelli, apart from the abandonment of Gesink in Brittany and other accidents suffered by Kruijswijk, Vingegaard or Van Aert, we do not look so bad in general, although we have to rethink the strategy to fight for the title “.
The new plan goes through Van Aert, 30s from Van der Poel, and Vingegaard, 5min18s from the Dutch and 1min35s from Pogacar.
“We don’t know how Wout will ride in the high mountain. If he succeeds, we will support him. If not, we’ll play the Vingegaard card. Primoz is very far away”.
