The Queen’s Park Cricket Club has unveiled the refurbished Bryan Davis Indoor Cricket Center.
The indoor facility, which contains three cricket pitches, was originally built in 2011 and named after the former QPCC, T&T, and West Indies opener Bran Davis.
The work was conducted by the club with the assistance of the Office of the Prime Minister Sports and Culture Fund.
QPCC president Dr. Nigel Camacho said at the unveiling that he hoped that similar collaborations in the future could help the club produce world-class athletes in many sports.
“It is hoped through future collaboration done in a similar fashion, through a joint-venture, that we can work together to improve facilities to continue to produce world-class athletes not only in tennis but in football, hockey, squash and table tennis, amongst other sports,” Dr. Camacho said.
He added that the club produced five of the players that featured in the West Indies victory over Sri Lanka in the 3rd ODI.
Centurion and Man of the Match Darren Bravo, skipper Kieron Pollard, Akeal Hosein, Nicholas Pooran, and Anderson Phillip are QPCC players.
He added, “There has been at least one QPCC player in 12 of the 13 IPL finals since 2008 – an incredible stat. Certainly our retired cricket administrator, Bryan Davis, whose name adorns this facility, (deserves recognition) for contributing to this.”
Debra Coryat-Patton, chairman of the Office of the Prime Minister, Sport & Culture Fund, said she hoped the new facility would contribute to the further success of the club in the future.
“It is our fervent hope that QPCC will, with this state-of-the-art facility, prepare players to move on this upward trajectory and who will wholeheartedly build upon the success to take the West Indies to new heights,” Ms. Coryat-Patton said.
Chairman of the QPCC Cricket Committee Jeffery Guillen thanked the OPM Sports and Culture Fund for recognizing the “unprecedented contribution” the club has made to the development of cricket in Trinidad and Tobago.
