Pastor-turned-cricket coach arrested for dowry harassment | Chennai News

CHENNAI: The Mylapore all-woman police on Tuesday arrested a small-time cricket coach on charges of dowry harassment.
The accused, identified as P Paul Samuel Thomas, 41, had had been a pastor in Madurai before moving to Chennai as a cricket coach.
Thomas married Heeba Jemi in 2008. Her family gave him 141 sovereigns and an SUV as dowry. He also received another 35 sovereigns from Heeba’s parents during his sister’s marriage.
The couple moved to Chennai in 2014. Thomas harassed Heeba demanding her parents’ properties.
Her parents are now settled abroad. In her complaint, Heeba also mentioned that her husband had developed an affair with a woman whom she had appointed to take care of their son. She stated that her husband and the other woman harassed her when she questioned them. Following this, Heeba separated from Thomas and moved to Besant Nagar with her son.
Thomas was remanded in judicial custody.
