New executive of Guyana Cricket Board elected

Former West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has been elected Chairman of Senior Selectors as the Guyana Cricket Board elected a new executive board on Monday.

Sarwan, 40, who played 87 Tests and 181 ODIs for the West Indies, was elected unopposed to the position.

Bissoondyal Singh was elected the new Guyana Cricket Board President, while Ronald Williams was installed as the new Secretary, replacing Anand Senasie.

Singh is the current president of the Demerara Cricket Board and reports indicate that he was elected unopposed.

Pretipaul Jaigobin was elected Treasurer, taking over the reins from Anand Kalladeen.

The election could have implications for the rescheduled Cricket West Indies Annual General Meeting on 11 April.

The meeting, which was scheduled for Sunday, was adjourned to 11 April after the representatives of the Barbados Cricket Board and the Guyana Cricket Board failed to show for the virtual meeting.

Up to Monday’s Guyana Cricket Board election, Anand Senasie (General Secretary) and Anand Kalladeen (Treasurer) served as Guyana’s representatives on the CWI Board.

Speaking to the online site News Room, Sarwan said he was looking forward to giving something back to cricket.

“I’m looking forward to this new role. I must say a big thank you to those who have placed the confidence in me. Congrats to the other members who were elected today. To them I say let’s work to build Guyana’s cricket,” Sarwan said.
