Glamorgan closed Day 2 at Hove on 205/9 in reply to Sussex’s 226 all out, with Hogan (3/46), Timm van der Gugten (3/45) and Andrew Salter (2/23) the leading wicket takers for the visitors.
Salter, who also finished on 6*, praised the efforts of the opening bowlers and was happy to get some wickets of his own.
“The day started really well with the way Timm (van der Gugten) and Hoges (Michael Hogan) bowled, they bowled tight lines throughout and on another day they could have picked up five wickets so credit to them for a big shift.
“For myself it was nice to get a couple of wickets towards the end, it can be tricky when they’re throwing the bat at it so nice to get us off the pitch.”
Glamorgan’s batsman made some starts but without being able to convert them into bigger scores, and Salter believes that the balance between bat and ball has made it ‘exciting on the bowling front’, although he still hopes that alongside Michael Hogan (11*) they can give Glamorgan a lead.
“Billy (Root) and David (Lloyd) played really well but they weren’t able to kick on today, and that led to me and Hoges knocking it around at the end. Ideally we’d like to go past their score, fingers crossed the weather doesn’t interrupt the game too much and we can get out there and crack on.
“There’s a little bit of spin, more on the slow side but there’s bounce and enough to be excited for, I’m looking forward to it.
“(Batsmen not going on to big scores) is the way the game has developed and wickets have been taken throughout for both sides, it is sometimes a challenge for batsmen but it’s exciting on the bowling front that if you hit the right areas, there will be some reward.”
