Big Man Cricket backs Team Skerritt/Shallow in CWI election

The Executive Committee of Big Man Cricket (BMC) in Guyana has backed the re-election bid of incumbent Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Rickey Skerritt and Vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow.

In a statement, BMC Chairman Raj Singh said the committee did an assessment of the candidacies of the Skerritt/Shallow team and CWI directors Anand Sanasie and Calvin Hope and the incumbents came out on top.

“The chart speaks for itself,” Singh said.

“This team was also saddled with a gaping US$31m debt, when they assumed office in March 2019, and has done exceedingly well in significantly lowering this debt to approximately US$20m with most of their pressing debts taken care of. The incumbents have made great strides in enhancing stakeholders’ relationships, governance, accountability and transparency and moderate success in the other areas.”

He continued: “the challengers failed to achieve fair successes in several areas of cricket in Guyana and Barbados, namely: Super 50, Female and youth (Under 15 & Under 17) cricket. Their historic success at the 4 days cricket and Under 19 cricket levels are noted and can be considered as exemplary.”

“Female cricket is one critical area that needs urgent attention from both teams. Under the areas of governance, stakeholders’ relations, leadership, transparency and accountability, the challengers’ performances can best be described as poor and in need of vast improvement. Such a circumstance shall be counter-productive to both CWI as the governing body of the sport of the region and to the sport itself that so many of us know, play, and love so dearly.”

The Skerritt/Shallow team has already received support from the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) and the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB).
