Two-member panel expected to speak to squad members, coaching staff, board officials, and even members of the media

The BCB has formed a two-member committee to review Bangladesh’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup. Directors Jalal Yunus and Enayet Hossain are the members of this committee – they have not been given a deadline to complete their investigation, but are expected to report to the board once done with it.

“It is almost like a fact-finding (committee),” Jalal said. “We weren’t supposed to perform so poorly. We will speak to the players, team management and board officials who had travelled to the World Cup. We will even speak to members of the media. We will try to find out what exactly happened.

“We will start our work from tomorrow but there’s no time frame for the committee. We don’t want to disturb the preparation for the Pakistan series [of three T20Is and two Tests in November-December]. We will refer to the coach’s report, but we will also speak to the manager and coach verbally.”

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup campaign began with a shock loss to Scotland in the first round, before they bounced back to beat Oman and Papua New Guinea. After that, in the main competition, they lost all their five matches, though they did get into decent positions against Sri Lanka and West Indies. And after Shakib Al Hasan left the squad with a hamstring injury, the wheels came off; Bangladesh were then bowled out for 84 and 73, against South Africa and Australia respectively.
In the four days after their T20 World Cup campaign ended, board president Najmul Hassan has held meetings with his colleagues, as well as a discussion with former captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who has been especially critical of the support staff led by head coach Russell Domingo, and Tamim Iqbal, who had opted out of the World Cup to give other openers a fair go.
According to some reports, the BCB has appointed Khaled Mahmud, the former captain who is also a board director, as the team director for the upcoming Pakistan series. Mohammad Salahuddin, the BPL-winning coach, is also in discussions to join the squad as an assistant coach, while there is talk of the BCB looking for a “power-hitter” coach as well.

Bangladesh’s training camp for the Pakistan series begins on November 13 – the three-match T20I series is scheduled to start from November 19, and the Tests will follow.
