Sunday is decision day for incumbent Ricky Skerritt and challenger Anand Sanasie, as Cricket West Indies’ board of directors will seek to elect a president for the next two years at its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Skerritt is hoping to get re-elected after his first two-year term comes to an end.
Due to the continuing travel-related effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the AGM will take place virtually.
“All arrangements are in place for a productive Annual General Meeting. This is not the first time that CWI is hosting a virtual AGM, but it will be the first time that our leadership elections will take place virtually,” said Skerritt. “We have everything in place to ensure a proper and constructive meeting.”
Shareholder members will receive reports from the Cricket, Commercial, and Finance Committees, and for the first time, audited financial statements, which will be consolidated to reflect CWI’s acquisition of and interest in the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
The 64-year-old Skerritt won the presidency on March 24, 2019, at Jamaica Pegasus Hotel by ending Dave Cameron’s controversial reign.
Skerritt won eight votes to four through a secret ballot. Cameron was seeking a fourth term in office after serving three two-year terms.
Skerritt’s running mate, Dr. Kishore Shallow, who challenged Emmanuel Nanthan for vice president at that AGM, also won by the same margin.
Dr. Kishore, 37, from St Vincent and the Grenadines will be challenged by Barbadian CWI director, Calvin Hope, who is an Attorney-at-Law and a former under-19 cricketer.
Sanasie, Honorary Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, and his running mate Hope have been campaigning under the theme ‘Operation RESCUE’, which talks about restoring excellence, soundness, confidence, unity, and enthusiasm.
The incumbent’s theme is #FORWARD ‘WI’ GO, staying on track with the ‘Cricket First’ policy, which guided their first term in office.
